At the beginning of the week I started sounding out one of the hardest songs that my step-father, Howard Smedley had ever wrote. Without there being written out music I was able to meet with my mentor Brian Hall and we sounded not only the first song, Love Me For All That I Am but we were also able to sound out three other songs in which are called; Somehow, Too Close To The Sun, and Since You Said Goodbye. The rest of the songs were already partially charted out by my previous attempts done by myself and the guitar teacher at proctor, Cliff. We worked on really listening to the songs to open my ears, to train them to hear the different chord progressions, the key changes, and just the little details within that like finger picking and strumming patterns. With the help of Cliff I would not have as much work done as I do now, and from the work I did with him there was definitely a lot more work to add on to what we had started cause we really only had the beginnings of the songs or even just a little bit more. Anyways it took a lot of work and effort into sounding out chords to the choruses, the verses, the bridges, and just everything about the songs. Any written music of Howard’s was always so complicated. He would just constantly layer so many guitars in each song that even finding the basic chords was so hard, and that is what I did with Brian. He helped and taught me that my “ears are everything” especially when it comes to music. We figured out twice as many chords as Cliff and I did, there are just so many details that make each song unique and I want to be able to pick that up and be able to play it. With that being said and done I am able to practice the songs all week, and hopefully by next Friday or Saturday I will be able to play them all the way through with a metronome which is a huge goal because I would really like to get into the recording process as soon as possible. On top of that I had also done a photo shoot to do a album cover for the showing of the final product at the end of Senior Project.  Totaling the hours I have put into Senior project this week is thirty-six hours. I practiced a little on saturday but I gave myself a break and took the entire weekend off. Based on what I have into the project I will easily reach the full one hundred hours at the end of Senior Project and I am looking forward to the next phases of this project for I get to see it slowly come together.
